A family is recruiting 2 Personal Assistants (PAs) to support their 11 year old son who has significant health and learning needs. The family live in the S9 area of Sheffield.
- There is a 30 hour and a 20 hour post available
- Both positions require someone who is able to work waking nights and days
- Nights are 9pm to 7am and day shifts can be flexible
- You must be flexible and willing to work any day of the week
- Full time PA’s will have 1 weekend off in 4
- Salary: £13.24 per hour.
Job Description
This young man has complex health needs and requires PAs with the skills, confidence and personality to follow strict routines with medication and equipment; and to work with mum and other PA’s with honesty and commitment.
He is described as a cheeky chap with the most gorgeous smile! He is into watching Tom and Jerry and Horrid Henry as well as accessing his education using eye gaze technology. He adores his Mummy and his 2 extremely friendly cats!
This role will appeal to those who have worked within the medical field, child care or schools and who have existing knowledge in caring for children or adults with complex medical needs. The role is on par with supporting a patient in the high dependency unit at the hospital, however it is in the comfort of the family home.
Each day and night has a number of key tasks and routines to follow which include medical interventions, observations and personal cares.

Essential criteria
- Experience of working with children with complex disabilities
- Willing to undertake essential training at commencement and take part in regular updates with parents and professionals.
- Ability to work as a team and to learn from existing PA’s
- Understand positive risk management and can keep calm in times of emergency
- Willing to invest in getting to know the young man well and commit to providing the best support
- Be friendly, reliable, and honest; and maintain confidentiality.
- Be respectful in the family-home.
- Be creative and confident with a fun and professional approach
- A good sense of humour and a warm caring nature.

Training for this role includes:
- Ventilator
- Tracheostomy
- Peg & feeds
- Suctioning
- Emergency input and basic life support, including emergency box
- Medication administration
- Oxygen therapy and cough assist machine
- Saturation monitoring
- Personal cares, including catheterisation
- Moving and handling including various equipment such as hoists, wheelchair, profiling bed, sleep system, massage table and shower chair
All training will be signed off by the family Nurse.
